Energy Dept. issues update on offshore-wind initiatives

The Department of Energy issued an update on the offshore-wind power initiatives across the U.S. The department is supporting seven offshore-wind demonstration projects with a combined potential generation capacity of 36 to 82 megawatts, said Greg Matzat, senior adviser to the department's offshore wind office of wind and water power technologies. The department's Wind Powering America program aims to support the development of 54 gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2030, Matzat said.
