Former Calif. professor is accused of taking illegal payments

Tatsuya Suda, formerly a professor at the University of California, Irvine, faces charges in connection with academic-research funding he is alleged to have received from a Japanese telecommunications company. He faces six felony counts and is charged with committing perjury related to as much as $700,000 of payments that authorities say were made between 2006 and 2009. Suda was released on bail earlier this month after being charged late last year.
