IMF economist warns reform risks wasting collateral

Manmohan Singh, senior economist at the International Monetary Fund, is concerned that reform of the over-the-counter derivatives market will threaten the supply of collateral because market participants might have to post margin across multiple clearinghouses. "It's important not to waste a good commodity that is getting scarcer: collateral," he said.
