Netflix CEO prophesizes end of linear TV

In the wake of his company's stellar earnings report last week, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings predicted consumers will increasingly transition to platforms that allow them to watch what they want when they want to -- making linear TV obsolete. That view is largely supported by analysts, many of whom were caught off-guard by the surge of new subscribers to Netflix. Networks such as CBS and Fox are working to forge their own imprint in the video-on-demand space.
