RD encourages Native Americans to return to indigenous foods

Native American groups such as the Tohono O'odham Community Action organization in Arizona want tribal members to eat healthier, indigenous foods. The group plants traditional crops and serves them at its Desert Rain Café. Registered dietitian Jamie Shirleson, who grew up on the Navajo reservation, said part of her job is to help Native Americans return to eating traditional foods by encouraging small dietary changes.
