R.I. city council is concerned about mayor's tax proposal

The Providence, R.I., City Council is mixed on a 6% tax increase in Mayor Angel Taveras's budget proposal for fiscal 2014. Several councilors are concerned that their constituents would not be able to afford the increase. "I am still analyzing the information, but my first reaction is concern," Councilwoman Sabina Matos said. "Mortgages will increase. Rents will increase, and we have the highest car tax in [the state]."
