Studies: Extra weight, excessive alcohol intake may damage liver

Overweight and obese women who drank too much alcohol were more likely to develop chronic liver disease and die from it, according to a study of more than 107,000 women in the U.K. A second study found that alcoholic cirrhosis patients who also had a history of obesity, fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes faced a higher risk of liver cancer. Both studies were presented at the International Liver Congress.
