Baby boomers seen as key to U.S. automakers' revival

The Big Three Detroit-based automakers -- General Motors, Ford and Chrysler -- each gained U.S. market share in the first quarter, the first time that has happened in 20 years. According to this article, the companies' renewed success is credited to convincing the baby boom generation that the quality of American cars has improved. "The baby boomers used to walk in like zombies and buy the Toyota. They don't do that anymore. They can buy a Korean car, they can buy a Volkswagen, and they certainly can buy a Detroit car," said IHS Automotive economist George Magliano.
