Concrete spheres could smooth energy flow from offshore turbines

04/30/2013 | CleanTechnica

Hollow concrete spheres on the seabed could anchor offshore wind turbines and also provide the means to solve the problem of intermittent energy production. Under a Massachusetts Institute of Technology plan, water would be pumped out of the spheres when the wind turbines are generating excess energy. Then, when energy demand exceeds what the wind can generate, the water would be released to flow back to the spheres, driving a separate turbine.
