Conn. increases funding for small-business support

About 93% of Connecticut employers are small businesses, and the state has created the Small Business Express program to help companies with fewer than 100 employees expand. Launched 16 months ago, the program has made $87 million in low-interest loans or grants, and more funding will become available. "[The program] has been a remarkable success -- one on which we should continue to build," said Catherine Smith, commissioner of the state Department of Economic and Community Development.
