FirstNet board member raises concerns about board operations

FirstNet board member Paul Fitzgerald, who is sheriff in Story County, Iowa, told the board that development of a national broadband network for first responders is hampered by secret meetings, withholding of information, exclusion of police and fire officials during planning, and conflicts of interest. Some board members disagreed, and the board overwhelmingly voted against a measure brought by Fitzgerald to address the concerns, but the group is studying the questions he raised and will publicly share the results, said member Jeffrey Johnson, a FirstNet Board member and CEO of the Western Fire Chiefs Association.
