Household spending hits 9-year high in Japan

Japanese household spending last month reached its highest level in nine years, indicating that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's stimulus might be gaining traction. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications says household spending increased 5.2% compared with March 2012. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare says unemployment is at its lowest rate in more than four years.
