Privacy advocates take umbrage at "do not track" document

A "draft framework" document distributed to members of the World Wide Web Consortium group seeking to develop a new "do not track" standard sparked controversy this week. The draft proposes that "do not track" settings should be turned off by default in browsers, in keeping with the Digital Advertising Alliance's recommendations. The document was obtained by privacy groups, who objected to the proposal.
