Schumer's bill to put hydrocodone under federal rules

Tighter rules on hydrocodone prescribing are needed to fight the growing problem of prescription drug abuse in Central New York, said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., at a news conference Monday in Syracuse. The abuse of opioids and hydrocodone is becoming worse throughout the area, Schumer said. Hydrocodone would be classified as a schedule II drug and be subjected to new federal restrictions under Schumer's Safe Prescribing Act of 2013.
