Study ties SSRIs to a greater risk of bleeding complications

Taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors around the time of surgery increases by 10% a person's risk of developing postsurgical complications, including bleeding, according to an analysis of records from more than 500,000 patients. Other complications were hospital readmission and the need for blood transfusion. The study appeared online in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.
