Study: U.S. tech-worker shortage is a myth

A study calls into question the urgency of the reported tech-worker shortage as U.S. companies lobby Congress to increase the number of highly skilled foreign workers allowed in the country under the H-1B visa program. The report from the Economic Policy Institute says the number of U.S. students graduating with degrees in science, technology, engineering or math is small, and only half of them are hired each year for a job in their field. The researchers reported that among computer and information science majors working outside their chosen field, nearly 32% took their current job because they could not find one in tech.
