Weingarten seeks to delay use of data from common core tests

Teachers need at least one year to work under the Common Core State Standards before schools should be held accountable for students' achievement on exams tied to the standards, said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. Speaking Tuesday to a group of civic and business leaders, Weingarten also called for greater input and involvement from teachers, while school officials say they already have adjusted for the new rigor and critics accused her of stalling.
