Dal LaMagna took over the helm of IceStone, a factory that uses recycled material to make surfaces for countertops and tables in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2011. He gave employees 10% of the company's stock, making them partners in the organization. When the plant was decimated by Hurricane Sandy, employees came to the rescue. What LaMagna had estimated would cost between $2 million and $3 million to fix was done for less than $1 million. The workers said, "We can fix this." They did, and production has restarted.
