May 7 is deadline for comments on FDA expanding OTC distribution of drugs for common conditions

The comment period on FDA’s recent proposal to approve certain prescription drugs for over-the-counter (OTC) distribution closes May 7, and stakeholders should weigh in on whether or not they support a new paradigm that would eliminate some doctor visits to improve patient access to the medicines they need. “The stakes are high because success here means better health for individuals and better public health outcomes,” said Coalition for Healthcare Communication John Kamp, who applauded the FDA for “jump-starting a public conversation” on removing patient access barriers.
