Bayer expands contraceptives portfolio with $1.1B Conceptus buy

Bayer plans to shell out around $1.1 billion to acquire U.S. contraceptive-maker Conceptus. The deal will give Bayer access to Conceptus' Essure, a nonsurgical permanent birth control method that can be performed in a physician's office in less than 10 minutes. The acquisition is expected to be finalized by mid-2013.
