Europe court injunction halts release of patient data

A European Union court granted a temporary injunction to prevent the release of patient data by the European Medicines Agency for clinical trials of drugs made by AbbVie and InterMune. The case is one of several pitting public-health authorities, researchers and nongovernmental organizations against drug manufacturers concerned about the confidentiality of proprietary information. Recently, however, several firms, including GlaxoSmithKline and Roche, have agreed to the release of patient data from their clinical trials.
