Hulu leans on sitcoms as premium subscriber base takes off

Hulu presented a high-school comedy with an all-Hispanic cast and a Western-genre spoof among its new original content offerings at the Digital NewFronts. The streaming video site now boasts that it signed up 4 million monthly premium subscribers as of the end of the first quarter, compared with a total of 3 million subscribers by the end of last year. "We're sitting next to the best of what was on TV last night. That's the bar for our original programming," says Hulu's interim CEO, Andy Forrsell.
