Mass. district considers new approach to math class placement

Concerned that some middle-school students enrolling in advanced math courses are not prepared for the rigorous work, school administrators in a Massachusetts district are considering setting a minimum test score that students will have to reach to qualify for placement. Students who score close to the minimum target on the placement test for advanced math may be considered for a waiver, officials said.
