MHS, Tricare IT budget control shifts to DOD undersecretary

Control and oversight of health IT procurement budgets for the Military Health System and Tricare Management Activity have shifted to Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Frank Kendall, according to industry sources. The shift comes after Pentagon leaders expressed frustration at efforts by the MHS to procure new IT systems and integrate EHRs with the Department of Veterans Affairs, an effort that has cost about $1 billion over the last five years.
