Smartphones are said to be enabling people to get their jobs done faster and more efficiently, but that increased productivity has apparently not yet shown up in the U.S. Commerce Department's productivity figures. Economists offer varying -- and sometimes highly technical -- reasons for the lack of tangible results, with some asserting that the numbers understate their economic impact. Executives point to a raft of areas where smartphones have improved their company's productivity.
