New vaccine could offer "universal" protection

Using three bits of DNA, San Diego biotech Vical has developed a bird flu vaccine that offers potential as a universal flu vaccine. The vaccine protects mice and ferrets against H5N1, and the company said the vaccine targets parts of the virus that all flu strains have.
