Pennsylvania companies discuss pipeline safety, emergency measures

Officials from Spectra Energy, which has natural gas pipelines and a compressor station in Upper Uwchlan Township, Pa., and Enterprise Products Partners, which distributes propane, discussed proper safety precautions and pipeline operations with emergency responders and residents. Shutting off the valves to stop the supply of gas or propane from the pipes is the only way to put out the fire, officials said. In case of gas or propane leaks, residents must be cautious in using potential ignition devices from car engines, telephones, doorbells and radio equipment, and call 811 to report the incident, they said.
