Senior citizens bring American history to life for Pa. students

American-history students at Garden Spot High School in New Holland, Pa., learned about history firsthand when senior citizens from a local retirement community visited their class. The older adults shared their personal experiences of the Great Depression, segregation, the Vietnam War and other historic events. "They get to see how American history played out in the lives of people and, hopefully, gets them thinking about American history in their own lives," social studies teacher Mark Leaman said of the students.
