Gastric banding helps moderately obese people lose weight

A laparoscopic adjustable gastric band resulted in a loss of at least 30% of excess weight in more than 80% of moderately obese patients, according to a study in the journal Obesity. A year after undergoing the procedure, about two-thirds of the patients had lost enough weight to no longer be considered obese.
