More youths in U.S. have food, skin allergies, study shows

A CDC report showed an increase in the prevalence of food and skin allergies among children between 1997 and 2011, while respiratory allergies remained steady. The cause of the shift is not clear, but experts said possibilities include the "hygiene hypothesis" that allergies are tied to reduced exposure to pathogens, insufficient vitamin D, dietary factors and more.
