Pro online-tax coalition retorts to eBay CEO's claim

The Marketplace Fairness Coalition, lobbying for passage of the Marketplace Fairness Act, is accusing eBay of using "inaccurate comments" in an e-mail it sent to rally opposition. The bill would force businesses that sell online to collect sales tax for other states, even if they have no physical presence in those states, and eBay's CEO John Donahoe has warned that states would then need to audit companies for compliance across state lines, a scenario the coalition denies, Bernie Becker writes.
