Psychologist: Diagnostic manual makes changes to learning disorders

The latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders will combine disorders of reading, mathematics and written expression into a single diagnosis called specific learning disorder, psychologist and special-education researcher Rosemary Tannock writes in this blog post. "But research has shown that these areas of learning are highly interrelated and shouldn't be divided as though they were separate disorders," writes Tannock, who worked on the revisions with other experts.
