Services warn Congress of tougher recruiting climate

Military recruiters may struggle to meet their goals in 2014 because of factors such as an improving economy, an increasingly overweight teenage population and a lack of support from parents, teachers and school counselors for enlistment, defense officials have told Congress. The Army Reserve missed its recruiting goal for the first quarter of fiscal 2013, although each service met its goal for enlisting active-duty service members.
