Students, others are challenged to bike to school

The second annual National Bike to School day is being held May 8, when students and others are encouraged to bike -- or even walk -- to school, Gina Cairney writes in this blog post. During last year's inaugural event, 945 schools participated, and this year, more than 1,200 have signed on. Supporters say the initiative, part of National Center for Safe Routes to School, is intended to help curb childhood obesity, promote healthy living and help students perform better in school.
