Why academics must overcome networking shyness

Academics should not hesitate to reach out to other professionals and network when applying for jobs, Rob Jenkins, associate professor of English at Georgia Perimeter College, writes in this blog post. Jenkins recalls when a colleague didn't contact him before applying for a position at his college. "Unfortunately, he did not get invited for an interview. But if he hadn't been so hesitant to use a strong asset in regard to that job -- a relationship with someone who already worked there -- he might have been," Jenkins writes.
