W.Va. State Board of Education works to implement new laws

At a special meeting this week, the West Virginia State Board of Education discussed how it will implement a high number of new legislative measures affecting the state's public education system, including a mandate to cut 5% of its personnel at the state Department of Education headquarters. Some jobs will be lost by attrition and other positions will be eliminated, board president Wade Linger said. Among other things, the board also agreed to reaffirm its written goals to preparing students for college and careers, and set up an early learning system to boost literacy.
