Childhood obesity rates are higher in Southern states

More children are obese in the Southern states than in other regions of the country, with Mississippi posting the highest rate of childhood obesity at almost 22% and highest overweight rate at about 45%, according to CDC researchers. Oregon posted the lowest childhood obesity rate, while Utah had the fewest children in the overweight category. Adopting the strategies employed by Utah and Oregon in other states could help reduce obesity rates, the lead researcher said.
