Chemical found in germ-killing soap is under FDA review

The FDA is reviewing the safety and efficacy of the germ-killing ingredient triclosan, which can be found in approximately 75% of antibacterial body washes and liquid soaps on the U.S. market. The move was prompted by mounting pressure from consumer advocates, lawmakers and others who expressed concerns about the chemical's safety after recent studies tied it to hormone-related problems such as early puberty and higher infertility risk.
