Do you need a privacy policy?

If you have customers' mailing addresses, credit card numbers, shopping history or other data, experts say it's a good idea to develop policies that explain how your company will gather and use that personal information. In some states, the law requires disclosure, but in general, telling customers how you will handle their information builds trust, says Joanne McNabb, director of privacy education and policy with the California attorney general's office.
