Former superintendent of Nevada's schools, Jim Guthrie, has proposed that the state's top 2,000 teachers get annual salaries of $200,000. The plan, which was the focus of a recent paper from the Nevada Policy Research Institute, has drawn some mixed reactions from teachers in Clark County, Nev. Guthrie said the "master teachers" plan would help elevate the teaching profession and draw top recruits from other careers to teach in struggling schools and train other teachers.
