Sixth-graders use social media to make a difference

There are many success stories associated with students' use of social media, writes volunteer teacher Zachary Hayes, who shares some examples in this blog post. These include the story of a group of sixth-graders at Isaac Newton Middle School in Harlem, N.Y., using social media to raise money to build a school in Ghana. The "We Ghana Build a School" project has its own Twitter, Facebook and team fundraising accounts, Hayes notes.
