USDA estimates costs of feeding family of 4 for a week

The U.S. Agriculture Department estimates it costs $146 to $289 per week to feed a family of four, but dietitians say it takes good planning to provide a healthy diet at the low end of the scale. Registered dietitian Bethany Thayer said healthy eating for $146 per week requires taking advantage of sales, buying produce in season and purchasing store brands.
