Stimulus spending boosts public-sector construction work

U.S. construction work swelled by roughly $2 billion between February and March, thanks to stimulus spending. A modest gain in March construction building was driven entirely by the public sector. By contrast, private sector building fell to its lowest point since January 1999. Still, Reed Construction Data Economist Jim Haughey suggests contractors should get ready for the coming expansion.
