Stimulus spending boosts public-sector construction work

Construction work swelled by about $2 billion between February and March, thanks to stimulus spending. A modest gain in March construction building was driven entirely by the public sector. By contrast, private-sector building fell to its lowest point since January 1999. Still, Reed Construction Data economist Jim Haughey suggested that contractors should get ready for an upcoming expansion.
