ICU bed availability linked to cardiac arrest, study shows

Study data from the University of Chicago linked each fewer medical ICU bed with a 27% higher risk for cardiac arrest among patients on general hospital wards. The researchers, presenting at the Society of Hospital Medicine's annual meeting, said ICU bed availability should be increased and improved ICU triage practices may be needed when there is limited bed availability.
