NYC officials pursue expanded flood-evacuation maps

New York City officials have used the National Weather Service's upgraded storm models in developing proposed revisions to the city's flood-evacuation maps. The changes, which would put more than 3 million residents in evacuation zones, are aimed at making the city more effective in evacuating during storms, officials said. "What it will enable us to do is, taking into account all of the best data that we have, make decisions about evacuations and other measures at a level that is a bit more refined," said Caswell Holloway, the city's deputy mayor for operations.
