Plan for Canada's debt-impairment rules is in line with global standards

Rather than following the lead of the U.S., the Accounting Standards Board in Canada has proposed guidance on debt-impairment rules in line with international standards. "The absolute driver in this was to move towards international standards," said Paul Cherry, chairman of ASB. "We want a system that has global recognition, global acceptance."
