CMS to remove data on 8 hospital-acquired conditions from website

CMS wants to overhaul its Hospital Compare website, removing data pertaining to eight hospital-acquired conditions, including infections and mismatched blood transfusions. The agency said it will develop a new set of metrics because some are redundant and an advisory panel recommended use of other indicators. Some observers have expressed concern that the move decreases transparency regarding dangerous errors.
