Universal primary education requires more teachers worldwide, data show

To offer universal primary-school education, an additional 1.7 million new teaching positions will need to be filled by 2015, according to data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics. To keep up with the need for new positions and the loss of existing teachers because of attrition, sub-saharan Africa has the greatest need for new positions -- more than 1.8 million by 2015.
