The recording industry, struggling financially because of flagging record sales, is looking to Congress to levy a performance fee on radio stations for music airplay -- a move described as "a brazen money grab" by the NAB. Radio executives and on-air personalities argue they nurture the careers of recording artists through radio play and promotion. A vote on the measure by the House Judiciary Committee could take place next week.
